Naked Lunch, 1991. A Canadian-British-Japanese science fiction drama written and directed by David Cronenberg. Starring Peter Weller, Judy Davis, Ian Holm, and Roy Scheider.
It is a film adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ 1959 novel of the same name. With a very complex storyline, the movie holds true to form on Burroughs’ visual images, as narcotic laced as they were. The film is about an exterminator who finds that his wife is stealing his insecticide (pyrethrum) to use as a drug. When Lee is arrested by the police, he begins hallucinating because of “bug powder” exposure. That’s when reality and the images in his head become cloudy and the real story begins.
